I want to say it was 2019 when Aimee Song (@songofstyle) posted the 90s trend of strappy square toed show stopper heels (SSS) and I knew then that this was going to be the trend of the year – I was curious though if it would stick around.
So flashing forward one year later and the shoe trend is still thriving. And I will list out some of the top shoes that have caught my eye along with those that have now become iconic.
The O.G. – Bottega Veneta
So it was all about Gucci 2-3 years ago and then Bottega made a massive come back over the last year with the square toed shoes, the mesh shoes and the pouch bag. They definitely started this cult classic 90s trend that has now become all the rage. The price point of course being on the pricier side. These shoes were sold out when they first came out, but Bottega’s latest square toed versions are now taking over.

High end contemporary – Amina Muaddi
Amina Muaddi has made headway in the shoe industry over the last year. Every known celebrity seems to be wearing her shoes. While still new to the shoe fashion scene she has procured an intense fan following with the begum pump being her most well known shoe.
Her shoes are stunners but are definitely pricey ($800 and above depending on the vendor) and not to mention almost always sold out, getting your hands on a pair is a feat on it’s own. But again the square toed and strappy pumps is a big part of the Summer 2020 collection.
Affordable options
So now we arrive to the part where us average joes want to hop on this shoe trend boat but like Jack from Titanic can afford the third class cabin tickets only. That being said, the beauty of this new shoe trend is that they aren’t brand specific. With the Gucci Princetown slipper, you knew right away if someone was wearing Gucci or not. Whereas, I find that with the strappy shoe trend there is a lot of leeway. I narrowed down some good quality options that don’t break the bank and seem to look as good!
